I always have such high hopes for Mondays.   My list is long and random. I usually am OK with the "what gets done gets done" attitude. But, for some reason I went to bed with disappointment in my inability to accomplish all the tasks I charged myself.

It is a new semester for my daughter. My son is slogging through the linear system. Slogging seems a fairly accurate word.   He is trying to find his way and we are attempting to be the best flagposts/ guides/ coaches/ cheerleaders/ we can be. It is my hope and prayer that he will soon find something that will light the fire within and give him the motivation to keep learning.

We are on the verge of February. Thoughts of spring occasionally wander through my brain. I am still working on the embracing the winter months.   It is too early to think of flowers/ seeds/ gardening. Deck sitting.   One more snowfall would be nice.

Hannah's first cinnamon buns. While we were waiting for them to bake we looked up the baking arts... I think she may have found something she is interested in studying.... Hallelujah. In all seriousness, it is a delight to see her show some enthusiasm for study outside of high school. It is very practical. And portable.

We, the parents are not eating alot of baked goods these days. But, we do appreciate a good piece of chocolate as a snack. Tonight I had red wine and chocolate.

Random counter shot for my contribution to my 365 project.

Our kitchen counter holds the vitamins, hand lotion, pencil sharpener, pens and pencils, usually a vase of flowers - currently also stored there are the driving education manuals, a library book, two English 11 texts, a box of kleenex, a bowl with lemons, car keys, a broken necklace and a filter for our vacuum cleaner....

I am adjusting to my new position. It is taking longer and more mental energy than I thought it would but I will be fine.... did I tell you the library is once again across the street....and there is a post office very close by.... this I like very much.

My back is better. This I also like very much. Still not 100% but, I can exercise again and slowly get back into a routine. Thanks for all the kinds words and thoughts.

first day at the new location went well. it will take some time to find my grove and get a feel for everyone's personality. my office faces a major road and the noise of the traffic is unreal. I feel like I am sitting on a race track. It is also lonely and devoid of people. Before I worked in an open space - people constantly walking in front of my desk/ tons of interaction. If I don't leave my office, I don't see people unless they have booked an appointment. This makes me considerably more efficient as I am not being interrupted but, I am not sure I like it. Kind of a moot point really because this is where I find myself now.

We had some teen drama in the evening leaving me exhausted and wondering exactly whose life I am leading.

I miss the folks at Downton Abbey.

But, hey look at this. Customize your own water bottles.

I found the garland I made last year. I was very pleased to hang it up in the sun room.

If I were baking desserts these days... this would be the one.

my back is messed up and I don't know how or why? I am pretty darn miserable and deflated. every task takes considerable mental energy. the pain has caught me off guard as I was feeling strong and capable. so adjustments have to be made. plans altered. modified. so that is what I am working on.

winter storm season is upon us. the promised white stuff arrived. it snowed on and off all day yesterday, but nothing much accumulated through the night.

but there was enough snow to warrant the save the cedar hedge campaign '12. in 2008 we invested a lot of time and energy shaking off the cedars to prevent them from splitting from the weight of the precipitation. we saved ourselves hundreds of dollars in landscaping by being vigilant.

we are still under a snowfall warning for the remainder of the week.

in other news .... we are watching Downton Abbey. and we love it.

my last week at work. I start in my new location on the 24th. will spend a good portion of the time cleaning up files and my desk and enjoying my coworkers.

I am so very close to being able to do one chin up.

the temperatures have dipped and it is cold.

the rain is back.
friday was a doozy of a day.
we had a "shuffle" at work - the bottom line is I am moving locations and I lose my 4 day a week shift. I will now work extended fortnight... which is not bad; every 2nd Saturday off. but, my current shift is better. and I loved where I worked so I was a bit shocked.

then my perspective changed when we heard of tragic death in the periphery of our lives. a young man in his early 20's. just barely. details are sketchy. all versions are horrific. and I am can barely comprehend the the tragedy. my son is struggling.

we are rallying.

it is a two americano morning today. and it is my late start day. let's have another glory hallelujah
get this. dishwasher busted. and the speedometer on the jetta no longer functions. that is a couple of small challenges to overcome. we use the dishwasher all the time. and the jetta is the learning how to drive car. probably a good idea if it keeps track of speed. seriously. if it is not one thing it is another.

this week is LONG. the transition back to sitting at my desk and dealing with the public. leaving in the dark and arriving home in the dark. rain. all the time. brutal. have to say I am looking forward to the weekend with far more anticipation than normal.
the fact that I am gone during all the daylight hours is proving to be a challenge with my 365 project. last night I had a bit of revelation. I will use my iphone to take pictures during these dark days... surely I can find something interesting and innocuous. the project is a reflection of my days. I spend 4 long days at work. once i reconciled myself to that idea.... the possibilities are opening up.
going back to work also through a kink in our daily walk in the am routine. which means I have to readjust to exercise in the evenings. let me tell you last night was a chore. dragged my sorry self out of a comfortable seat in front of the fireplace. but, once I was upstairs and doing the work.... I was happy to be there. I am completely focused on my goal of 10 chin ups. That is not going to happen if I slack off.
do I sound like I am complaining.... I don't mean to. I am adjusting. It is slow work.
Sunday we have the Blessing of the Waters service at the river. It is one of my most favourite things we do as orthodox .... all I have to say is that it better not be raining. last year it was bitter cold. so cold my eyes watered and I could not focus my camera properly. but, I will take cold over wet any day. any time.

interesting. i pondered my choice for a long time. i want to be stronger in a physical sense. my goal is to be able to do 10 chin ups by the end of 2012. but, there is the spiritual / emotional side as well. i wonder if I am setting myself up.

decided to give the 365 photo project a go again.

another year of west of hope. we are hoping to have a public show/ book/ something in 2013

big river stories will hopefully unfold into something awesome.

a creative endeavor is percolating - will require some research and prep work and a little financial commitment but i think it could be good. involves mini moo cards. which I love.

the year is winding down. we are making no big plans for new year's eve. rather we are going out for dinner tomorrow when both of our children are attending a concert. then saturday night we are staying in and watching hockey and boardwalk empire. we have a date to pick up some calendars at 50% off and we are picking up the subaru from the shop. it needed a new clutch. piece of crap car. don't even go there. anyhow...we are facing the reality that mr. w will need an alternative mode of transportation. so we are going to check out a vehicle tomorrow. we have both decided on our words for 2012. more on that later. i am writing a mini manifesto for the new year. i can confidently say that I will be using the medium format camera more next year since we will have a dark room to develop the photos. definitely want to read more after that rather pitiful revelation from 2011. wait! I just remembered two more young adult novels I read. that makes it 7 in total. definitely need to improve that number. we are finishing up the last of the eggnog and the winter's ale. making plans to de-clutter in january. enjoy these last couple of days in 2011.

these past couple of mornings have been incredibly mild.
makes me wonder once the holidays are over just, what kind of weather is in store for us?

feeling pretty darn relaxed going into the break. I have a lunch date with a friend tomorrow and while I am out I will grab some last treats for the stockings. groceries will be done on Friday. still deciding if we are going to bake cheesecake or not.
one of my presents was a chin up bar that fits in your door frame. totally inspired by Molly - we set it up - the bad news is that I can not do one chin up. not one. but, I am committed. my son can do 5. he is motivated to do more.
had friends over on Friday night. it has been ages and ages since we were all in the room together. I have missed them.
I wish I could share with you the most amazing experience we had on our walk. Behind us we heard hundreds of Canadian geese honking - they came up behind us with a thunder and the sky literally darkened as they passed. I keep bringing my iphone to see if I can record it next time.
I have made 6 pairs of flannel pj's.
still thinking about my word for next year. I definitely have a front runner. But, I am am still open to possibilities.

really I do.
over the course of the last 5 months I have become increasingly aware that I am reacting to something that I eat. it is wheat related. it is killing me. well not literally but, holy moly I feel miserable after the consumption of wheat related items. so don't eat them right? you would think so.... but NO NO.... I think that maybe just maybe I was imagining my discomfort.

well NO I was not.
and it appears to be getting worse. the more I abstain and then indulge the worse I get.

probably too much to share but, never more than now am I convinced you need to listen to your body.

I have also been doing some reading about the recycling of plastics.

Accepting defeat.

This year's #reverb11 in it's revamped format is not really working for me. I liked the structure last year's topics offered. This year I can choose to follow whatever prompt I want. I have not chosen the prompts ahead of time so, I spend WAY too much time figuring out a prompt. Then I have to write. It is not working.

It is OK.

I am busy enough with my own projects. I have my journal to write deep personal reflections. Maybe that is all I need to do this year.

I have 5 days of work left this year. Crazy. Good.

I am wishing for snow.

What did you leave behind?

I am leaving behind a lot of excess weight. Actual physical pounds. My husband has lost considerably more weight than I have. But, along with the weight - the emotional burdens we have carried for the past few years. The sense we need to continue forge down this path we have chosen and we are stronger by sharing the road and the journey together. We are making plans for the future. We are talking more. Real talking again. Not just the kind of needs based conversation to allow for the household to function. And learning to listen to each other. It is good.

What did you read?

It is rather telling that I can remember reading very few books this past year. What this tells me is I need a system to write down what I read -so I can reflect on it later. I think two lists might be good. The list of books to read and then the list of what I have read. But for now here is what I remember.

Do the Work by Steven Pressfield.
The Hunger Games
State of Wonder by Ann Patchett

There were some other young adult novels in there during the summer - one about a brother returning home from the war... gah ... it is terrible that I am drawing a complete blank.

So it can safely be said that I read less than 10 books this past year. I find that pathetic. So, I am going to make a change for 2011. Read more intentionally. And more period.

My children will do it differently -- If you could choose one thing that your children will do or experience in a different way than you have, what would it be and why?*

The world is considerably smaller for my 16 year old twins. The amount of information that they can access and is available to them is exponentially higher than when I was 16. This is both good and bad.

I am envious of the opportunities available to them - the technology - the knowledge - the ability to communicate with others in far off places in real time. But, I also have the maturity and wisdom to understand there are implications. We constantly talk about online activity. What you put out on the internet stays on the internet. Facebook is brutal. I sound like a broken record. So many teachable moments. And so, ultimately I do not envy them. I would not want to be a teenager now.

They communicate on their own wavelength. It is hard to break in. Cell phones and texting and facebook have created a middle layer where the parents are observers. You skulk around facebook looking for clues. You hope they are making good choices. You offer opportunities to talk and ask open ended questions. You do not let your facial expression betray you when they do share. You listen and shut up.

I am hopeful the good will outweigh the bad. I am hopeful that they recognize the opportunities to see and explore the world and connect to others. I hope that they can find the balance between sharing too much and just enough. I embrace the moments they still come to me to ask my opinion. I am humbled.

Hard to believe a whole year has gone by ....
I am going to participate in #reverb11. Still not quite sure of my game plan. The idea is to use the month to reflect on the past year to help steer yourself forward.

If I could describe this last year I would say it has been less turbulent overall. I have made some definite gains health wise. My guiding word for 2011 was stretch and I have done that.

I have stepped out of my comfort zone and I am actively involved in two projects. I have other ideas percolating.

I participated in a couple of online courses.
I have made some new friends.

I feel more at peace with the whole being a parent of teenagers.

I have read some good books.

But, there have been tough moments. Moments where my heart ached something fierce by the recognition that I was not ultimately in control. That I could not save anyone. Tears of frustration, anger and disappointment hung on my cheeks. I have suffered through a bit of a dark night of the soul.

I am ready to start again.

and what I am noticing is how dry my skin is.
invested in my first night time moisturizer.
what the heck is that all about? you are talking to someone who struggled with acne and oily skin all through her teens and young adulthood. I have a big time aversion to putting anything remotely thick and creamy on my face. but it appears that the times they are a' changin'.

last year I participated in #reverb10 coordinated by the lovely Gwen Bell and friends. this year we are encouraged to create 31 of our own prompts and form a community. so thinking about whether I will write my own prompts or find someone new and tag along with them.

I had been thinking of taking my camera into the neighbour's garden for weeks. Finally as the flowers were losing their lives I ventured out on a sunny day. I like the yellow in these images. Yellow is a hard colour to capture.

I am waiting up for my daughter who is at a Dan Mangan concert.

I walked away from a Pentax MX earlier this week. I need another manual SLR film camera like a need a ... .well I don't need one.... but it was tempting - came with both a 35mm and 50mm lens... I was proud of myself but, I am still thinking about it.

We are having a small work party/ function tomorrow.

Marcel is an app now. I love Marcel. I was way ahead of the curve with this love. And there will be a hard cover too. The app is really just the book being narrated by Marcel. Cheaper than a 6 pack of beer. Endearing as all get out.

Who is using the new blogger interface? I tried and reverted... I am not a big fan right now.

It has been good so far.
I made it to liturgy.
We walked in the morning. Hence the fog and frosty images. I finished off a roll of portra 400. I used the canon. It is lame carrying the camera on the walk, I was driving my husband crazy because I had 6 shots left and kept stopping to take a photo. Our walks in the am are NOT generally saunters. Once I was finished shooting, I could put the camera away and pick up the pace.

Family dinner tonight. Kind of a big deal. This week there is a huge Jr. A Hockey tournament and both of my children are working almost every day. We are going to be a finely tuned machine with the driving to and picking up from work.

I am roasting a chicken. And sweet potatoes. We are also having mashed potatoes and steamed cauliflower. I have a batch of oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookies on the go and have started a new knitting project. I love autumn.

I received my copies of Do the Work in the mail yesterday. Cracked it open last night - it is going to be GREAT! If you haven't read The War on Art either you should grab that next. Steven Pressfield is brilliant and his latest book is just what I needed to read before the end of the year. I have kind of stalled out in some of my projects... the wheels are spinning, but I am standing still.

I have been distracted by this and that. I have lost my confidence in plowing ahead. I feel a bit mired. Anyways... it arrived in record time and I am thrilled.

I also ordered Uncertainty by Jonanthan Fields which I will tackle after Do the Work. I am hoping these two texts will get the juices and gumption going again.

We seem to have an insurmountable amount of laundry these days.

We woke to frost covered grass. No more lawn cutting this season. My son will be thrilled.

We are falling back this Saturday night and so we will have more daylight in the am but, it will get dark earlier. I was just getting used to dark mornings.

November 1st. Really? This is the month of NaBloPoMo. And Remembrance Day. The Nativity Fast starts in two weeks. Two months left of 2011. I always feel that this is a time of transition, a winding down and reflective time but, I am also acutely aware that one sixth of the year remains open for new things/ projects - there is still time.

I have made two dates so far.

There are a definite few things on my list to finish by the end of the year.

I will be making more soup.

I am going to venture into the gluten free baking world. But, not for Christmas. We will make normal gingerbread. And my teens will invite their friends to decorate. Their idea. I am secretly thrilled.

I am drinking chai these days. Just brewed with steamed milk and honey.

We put up our Christmas lights yesterday while the weather was fine. But, there will be no turning on of the lights until the 15th.

It has been a week. The lack of daylight is doing a number on me. I am dragging my feet in the dark mornings. I have hung the twinkle lights in the kitchen window. I have been going to bed earlier. Hopefully I will adjust sooner than later. My lack of productivity in the am is alarming.

Learned some big life lessons this week. I am an instinctive person. I am an INFJ on the Myers-Briggs scale. I have had enough instances in my life that have taught me to trust my gut. So, when I don't and the ramifications are big and emotional it slays me. I know better.

It is tempting to fall into trap of indulgent self pity and guilt because I did not do something when I felt I should have. But, I am fortunate to have friends who challenge me and call me to attention.

I am ever grateful.

The rain cometh. My iphone app tells me it is going to rain for the next 7 days with an average daytime temperature of 13 degrees C.
It is so dark outside. Still at 7:30 am. Definitely a two americano morning.
It is the last work day of the week. I am off on a lieu day tomorrow. We may need to change our plans depending on how much it is raining.
Family dinner on Sunday. After one ice hockey game; one field hockey game - one shift at Hockey Fan Fest.
I have been wearing my new boots almost every day. I love them.

It has been a whirlwind of a few days. Remember those sweet potato biscuits I was making. They did not rise as much as I wanted them too, but we still ate and enjoyed them. I ate way too many. Then I checked out the calorie content on myfitnesspal and nearly died. So, I hit the eliptical machine to even the score. But, not only did I suffer that way. I am pretty darn sure I had some kind of reaction to the white flour/ gluten. I know it is trendy to say I have a gluten intolerance but, I think I must. I have been avoiding all baked goods for months now just because it is easier to avoid extra calories and I have been feeling pretty good. But, Lord Have Mercy. I am suffering now. To top it off I had a latte and a zucchini muffin yesterday and that pretty much did me in. How did I get to become so sensitive to the foods I ingest? Even, this morning not feeling terribly fine. A day of clean eating is in store.

Had my quarterly review and get to keep my job. Yeah.

I am working on something big. I am chipping away at all the details. I am gathering a team of supportive people around me.

I have found a couple of new houses to photograph for west of hope. Just need my partner in crime to come back from her adventure at Camp Shutter Sisters.

My daughter is dancing again and choreographing to Treelines When I Get Grown.

I am taking a lieu day on Friday and my husband and I are going on a date. Another trip to the city with our cameras.

I have been somewhat out of the loop with my blog reading and I am hoping to catch up this weekend. I miss the inspiration and the quiet mornings with my coffee and my online friends.

It was a bit of a brutal weekend in that way. We also got a lot done. Lawn furniture stored for the winter. Hot tub emptied and refilled.

We made a good dent in the laundry. We took some photos. Of cows in the field.
Baked more zucchini muffins and made spaghetti sauce. Prepped the sweet potato for biscuits tonight.

Today I am off for coffee with a ex-coworker. A trip to the leather tool shop and groceries.

I start later. I kept it quiet this morning. Delivered both young'uns to school and home to eat smashed egg on rye toast.
Started the day with tylenol cold and flue to rid myself of the scratchy throat.

Never happier it is jeans day. I can wear a sweater and bundle up and be warm at work for once.

I buy a lot of lemons. We use them almost everyday. It never used to be this way.
We have used the hot tub every day. It is a beautiful thing. It is a luxury I haven't quite adjusted to. I don't have to spend a long time in the water because it is there for me all the time. Perfect for after work stress busting.
I went to liturgy today after several weeks away. I have been going through a bit of a dark night. A friend said "I hate the dark nights". I am thinking of having a t-shirt made. My priest's sermon was full of good words. So, I am glad I made the effort.
The weekend was filled with unseasonably warm weather. It was 26 degrees on Saturday.
I am now the delighted owner of Crazy Horse Brown Rigger Blundstones
I have pulled out the crochet needle and wool.

i have cut out sugar and unprocessed foods from the diet but we were fund raising for Cops for Cancer and serving up hot dogs and chips and pop for donations.

yep. all that. we are using this new app on our i phones. myfitnesspal. it tracks what you eat. you need to be brutally honest about what you are consuming. you track your intake of calories and your expenditure of calories. it is that simple. the big thing is being honest about how much you are consuming. and when you see how many calories in one slice of pumpkin loaf from starbucks and what it takes to work it off you think twice about eating that piece of pastry. that is the theory anyways. making different choices. or more informed choices.

today I ate too much. one of my partners at work took us out for lunch so I ate pizza - cheese and carbohydrates altogether. and then to top it off I had an iced cappuccino. I worked out and was still in the negative. bother. oh well.

I have been thinking a lot about consumption. About our culture and the food industry. And how we view food. I am trying to think about food as fuel first. It is hard though because I love the culinary arts. I love to eat and drink good meals with friends.

and then there is the whole issue of anorexia - my daughter is working on a project for her psychology class - and we have been discussing the crazy websites that exist. messed up.

Sept. 14th
It is my father's birthday.
He turns 77. He is 30 years older than me.
That is how I remember his age.

He came to Canada in '56 escaping Hungary and the revolution with a group of forestry students. He eventually made his way to the Okanagan and met my mother who was just 20. And they married and I came along. He has stories to tell.

My father was a foreigner. His English still smacks of someone who has learned the language later in life. He wore wooden clogs through most of my childhood. I was embarrassed by them at the time because he was so DIFFERENT from the other dads.

Now I see how brave he was to stay the course and be true to himself.

My dad is an artist. He loves to paint and draw. And putter in his garden. He loves my mum. Still.

I had a good weekend. Lots to think about. Working on a big attitude adjustment.
Struggling a bit with the realization that this body of mine does not require a whole lot of energy to get through the day. So, I must exercise more in order to enjoy the food and beverages I enjoy.
Scored a lovely brown embroidered A-line skirt at Value Village yesterday. Picked up some Joe Fresh brown tights to go with it. Bring on the boots.
There was only enough coffee for one americano each this morning. Lame.

I took another photo today. Right into the sun. Blind. And when I looked at it. My finger obliterated half the image. Oh well. I am sure that is a metaphor for something.

My high school burned to the ground this morning. I woke up to my alarm as per usual and perused my twitter feed. @SandraOldfield from Tinhorn Creek posted the fire broke out around 2:30 am. By 6am it was pretty much gone. I am a little bit sad. High school was not my favourite time but, we had a great school. Big wide hallways. A fantastic old auditorium. All of it is gone. The loss to the community is hard to comprehend. The students and teachers will need to find somewhere to go. The auditorium served a greater need in the community than just high school productions. Support staff will be without work. The impact of this fire will be a ripple effect.

The son is gainfully employed. Hurrays all around. And he is taking ceramics and had a good first class sculpting a dinosaur. His teacher loved it. He used to use modeling clay all the time. He has a good eye and good perspective. His eyes were bright when he talked about the class. This makes me happy.

I think I need some tea tonight.

We should get the trench filled this afternoon and our yard will look less like a construction zone. The roof is pretty much done save for some final flashing and the cleanup and inspection. The hot tub is set to arrive next Sunday. Things are happening.

I have some work meetings this week which I will continue to be vague about. I am excited and slightly nervous about new possibilities.

I have missed a lot of church these past few weeks and I am feeling slightly antsy about being apart from my family. On the other side of this - I have been having some full discussions about the big picture with my children. Their hearts are open and we keep moving forward.

A very wise person has sent me some good words. We will survive these years. It definitely is not as bleak as I may paint the picture. In fact it is good. Bumpy but overall - good.

We are enjoying brilliant end of summer days. The sky is blue and the days are warm.

How is this possible? The time is crashing into itself. The fog has arrived. It is considerably cooler in the mornings. Although I can see the sun burning through the mist and it is going to be a lovely day.

We have so much to do. Actually I personally do not have alot to do but, I am the overseer. My daughter has been negligent in creating her schedule. Her courses are set. But, she is currently working two jobs and her dance and school schedule needs to be reviewed and her employers need to know when and when she can't work. ASAP. Which really means like last week she should have done this. I struggle with how much control to give her.   She gets overwhelmed easily and I was hoping she would show a bit more initiative. Instead she stuck her head in the sand so that NOW it must be done and there will be conflicts. Sigh. And consequences. She is going to have to choose which job to keep - which one to let go.... she may lose hours of work.   What is her priority right now? How much dance does she want to do?   I should have pushed her harder last week and while it would have been uncomfortable for me - it would have saved the grief now.

On Saturday our house will be mayhem. They are coming to lay the pipe for water and electricity for the darkroom. The trench will hopefully be back filled and our yard will be restored.   The electrician is coming to review where we are running the wires for the hot tub.

Sunday night my son returns home. Monday we are hoping to head into the city. And Tuesday school starts. I took Friday off as a lieu day - forgetting I booked the 2nd dentist appointment. So no sleeping in on that day either.

I have completed two days of working out in the evenings. It is proving to be less of a mental challenge, but my body is fighting. I had serious leg cramps last night making sleep difficult. This getting older thing is for the birds.

Four months remaining of 2011. What do I want to accomplish? How am I going to get there? I am hoping to create some space this weekend to reflect on the first two thirds of this year and write some lists for these last few months.

slowly things are happening.
the roofer has been selected. they can start in about 3 weeks. we are glad to have made that decision.

the pad for the hot tub has been built. it looks fantastic. and it is level.

my son will be home in 6 days. i just counted. longer than i thought it would be. we have heard from him once. he is having a good time.

the electrician and plumber should be coming this weekend to do the work for the darkroom.

we are talking back to school shopping. essentials vs. I just want a new....
we are talking meal plans and work schedules and dance classes. my daughter will be dancing again after 8 months of rest. she is nervous and excited.

the season is changing. i can feel it this morning. the skies are overcast but, not only that the air is cooler and it does not feel like summer. we are transitioning to fall - we are still hoping for some warm days and bright skies. i am working on reconciling myself to the new season. normally autumn is my favourite - still is - but lamenting the shortness of summer.

We have narrowed down our choice of roofers. We are just waiting on one more quote. We have decided to entertain the idea of a brick red roof.

Dental emergency caused weekend plans to be adjusted. Not to worry - I have been temporarily mended and the new crown is on its way to the lab. Oh joy.

My son has gone to Mexico with a family friend. Apparently he has already gotten a sunburn.

We lost our power for about 3 hours tonight.

It rained all day but now the sky is clearing.
