the third day of 12 days of Christmas

Three French Hens

On this 3rd day of Christmas we shall venture forth into the city. We have to drop off a couple of gifts... exchange a gift before the deadline, visit the Comic Book shop and eat dinner with friends.

I woke to a dusting of snow. Not much but enough so that I noticed. The temperature is decidely cooler. I heard the garbage truck. Our garbage was not out. I donned my slippers and fleece and quickly put the garbage out. The do not do both sides of the street at the same time so I may just get lucky.

We watched Eastern Promises last night. I liked it. Makes you think. The Russians come off looking pretty unsavory. I am not naive enough to thinks such things exist. Good twist at the end.

Since I did venture forth to the video rental shop I saw a couple of other flicks I might like to see over the holidays. I look forward to that.

looking for a good novel

any suggestions?

Dec 26th

We slept in.
It was very good.
Breakfast consisted of French Toast - Bacon and OJ. We are resting. It will be leftovers tonight and there are plenty of them.

We have had a lovey Christmas thus far. Christmas Eve day we rose early and hit the grocery stores. We shopped and filled our baskets with many different cheeses; meats and ingredients to make our favourite sidedish of carrots. We were done in record time. Then it was home to make the dessert - the sidedish of carrots; finish the PJ's - put together appetizers for later that evening and clean my sink.

We bundled ourselves out the door to Christmas Eve Vespers. The first hour of the service I quite enjoyed but the last hour I found it difficult to concentrate. But, we survived and we came home and hosted a quiet evening with good friends...

A bath; the stockings stuffed and off to bed by midnight...

Christmas Day we rose by 6.30am - sat quietly in the light of the Christmas tree - then we sing O' Come All Ye Faithful and wake the children... we open stockings... and then off to Liturgy.... which zipped along a lovely pace... and then we were greeting everyone with Christ is Born; Glorify Him and off home we went... the day was spend very quietly - we just hung out - doing separate things but resting in the knowlege we were all home together - and we even had a snowfall.

Dinner prep was easy - the potato water was saved - there was plenty of gravy. My yorkshire pudding was again flat... need to work on that recipe - but still very yummy.

We rested. We played a game of LIFE. We watched It's a Wonderful Life.

let the holy days begin

I am officially off work now. Saturday was pretty relaxed... there were a few things that needed to be done before I left...and they finally got done. I said my goodbyes to my co workers. I will be starting a new position - same company in the new year so I had to clean out my desk - and interoffice files to myself at new location.

Then because I am the SUPREME PROCRASTINATOR I had to locate some pointsettias for the church. The nursery I planned on going to - the one that advertised -open until 8 pm nights - closed at 6pm. Plan B - another nursery - also closed. Plan C - worked but it took me much longer to facilitate this task than I anticipated.

We will decorate the sanctuary with the remaining greens and flowers after liturgy.

What is left to do?

I need to finish a couple of cards - they will get to there destination within the 12 days of Christmas - so I am not concerned.

I need to buy food. We celebrate Christmas morn with an assortment of fine cheeses and meats. We don't eat them prior to Christmas so they will be picked up. We need to stock up on other necessities... and then we will be done. I will spend tonight making tiny little parcels for the stockings... that is one of my favourite parts...

camera: found!

The camera has been found. It in a friend's vehicle.
I wonder how it got there?

Regardless, it is found. Hurrah.

2 more days until I am holidays.

Still quite a few little things to accomplish but I will get them done in due time.

lack of photos

What to do?
The camera has gone missing. So, I couldn't post photos of our gingerbread doves w/royal icing and a dusting of blue sugar.

Photos do add a bit of excitement to the blog.

Today, I will make it to Matins. Then after Liturgy, a family get together... big math test tomorrow so there is some studying to do...

2nd last Saturday

It is very quiet in the house this morning....
I made myself an Americano and I am revamping the budget. Always an important thing to do!

I am thinking about stocking stuffers. And work. And the fact that the family is going to run out of laundry soap in the midst of the crushing amount of clothes to be washed. I am thinking we have to find a more time efficient method than saving it all for the weekend!

time organization is the KEY

I live a dual life. My work life is fast paced; efficient; I multi-task all day long.
But, when my tires meet my driveway I hit a brick wall.

My home life is so chaotic and disordered right now.

My laptop has appeared to have died. My clutch on my car is on the verge....as is my right axel.

requests

A request for nesting dolls has surfaced.... from little miss H.

I am in the countdown. Less than 2 weeks and I will be going on holidays. I can hardly wait.

I got the job!

Yes. I did.
Can you believe it?
Thanks for all your prayers.

I am so very pleased!
It was very hard to concentrate on the task at hand the remainder of the day!

big day

I have an interview this morning.
Internal.
I am quite excited about the potential for new possibilities.
I can see myself working in this new environment.

It is cold outside again. The frost is thick and heavy on the lawn. We will have to scrape the windshield. I rose earlier today to spend some quiet time. I love this time. But, I also need sleep. But, today I sacrificed the sleep and it is good.

Soon, I will rally the troops. I work late tonight. We will pick up some Christmas decor items; I really wanted to make a wreath this year but it is not going to happen. So, I will choose a lovely full green one and maybe decorate it myself...

st. nicholas the wonderworker

The truth of things revealed thee to thy flock as a rule of faith,/ a model
of meekness, and a teacher of temperance./ Therefore thou hast won the
heights by humility,/ riches by poverty./ Holy Father Nicholas, intercede
with Christ our God that our souls may be saved.

the snow has come and gone

Remember when I was panicking about how busy the weekend was going to be?

Well. I survived. It was busy but good. Saturday the snow arrived and it snowed all day. We had close to 8 inches of snow. Mr W gave me a ride to work as we only have one vehicle that functions well in snow.... so it made getting to the company Gala a bit more challenging but we took public transit in the FREEZING COLD - and we saw many interesting people.

The Gala - I did some schmoozing and did not win an electronic prize.

We took a cab home. The snow was still falling and it was a long slow ride home. The company is paying.

Then Sunday our church is serving Matins. It was beautiful. Amazing. Highly recommend it.

Sunday night the rain started and the temperature warmed up and the snow has gone away.

Monday Mr. W was home so we took my car in to repair its headlamp and check out the brakes. All is good - cost was minimal - no big repairs to the brakes needed.

We did some shopping.

We bought some dog food; some different B & W film; I finished my scarf for the my mum.

late shift today.

December 1st

A day to remember. Br Charles de Foucoult

The first snow fall of the season. We are sitting in our sunroom waiting for fireplace to warm up the room. The windows are filled with reflections of the outdoor lights and the snow cast a warm light. It is all very cozy.

I am sad I have to leave it all and drive to work. I am taking the subaru as more snow is expected tonight. This bit that arrived last night was a surprise.
