I cannot believe it is this time of the year again. We are counting down the days to Lent. Today, we hear the story of the wayward son and the older brother and the unconditional love of the father. It is a hard story for me to understand. I am the older brother. I am irritated with the younger brother. How could you just squander away the gifts given to you? I am mystified by the love of the father. Humbled.

I'm with you Ramone...I never understood that story either. It seemed to me that the older brother didn't get much out of the deal.
yes, humbled is a good place for Lent. my spiritual Father spoke of Lent as a gift today... may we receive it!
I feel the same about the older brother too. Context makes a difference, as Fr. Lawrence was saying this morning....the older brother was a caricature aimed at the Pharisees.
