Yesterday was one of the busiest days at my new job. Seriously, I barely talked to my coworkers - I saw clients all day - barely looked outside my window. My head was swimming with numbers. Today is a short day but guarantees to be just as busy. The skies are blue and I am hoping that the sun melts the snow that is covering up the spot where the SNOW DROPS are supposed to be growing.
My daughter had a disaster of a day herself. She badly miscalculated her science quiz. Meltdown occurred. Why is life so hard? Why doesn't she get things quickly - why does she have to study so hard.... reality check required. Do you REALLY believe you have been putting in your best effort? Because, I beg to differ. We called it a night. Will come up with new game plan on the weekend.
My son still sounds as though he is on death's door but promises he feels much better. Missed assignments have been communicated. He should be back at school Monday.
Monday - I am on a strict clear liquid diet in preparation for a lovely physical exam. I cannot tell you how excited I am about that.
Sunday is Forgiveness Sunday Vespers and the last day to eat cheese. We are having a good meal with good friends. I look forward to it.

morning sounds
It appears I have forgotten it is Wednesday.
Wednesday is garbage/ recycling day.
I just heard the truck drive by.
Bother. No garbage collection for us this week.
Pouring rain.
A sound we have not hear much of this winter. I can hear the grass turning green.
Radio
Chit chat and news.
Shower
Daughter is prepping for school. A morning of dress rehearsals. Dance performance tonight.
The son is sleeping. Fever, chills, headache. He stayed home from school yesterday and I would like to stay home one more day. He is couging up a storm and should rest. Everyone else is washing their hands like crazy!

all sorts
Last night to eat meat.
We choose ham and scalloped potatoes.
The potatoes took forever to cook through.
We are watching Season 4 of LOST.
We are finished with HOUSE.
All on DVD.
We canceled cable vision.
I missed the Oscars.
I might have one last little bit of chocolate.
I am dying my hair myself.
The grey is coming fast and furious.
We woke to a morning without frost.
The birds were chirping and there were other wildlife noises.
The snow is almost gone.
Surely, spring is coming.

resistance
Have you met the wall of resistance. I am hitting my head - actually it feels more like a full body slam - against the wall.
Steven Pressfield has written a great book "The War of Art: Break through the Blocks and Win your Inner Creative Battles"
I need to read it again.

countdown to Lent

I cannot believe it is this time of the year again. We are counting down the days to Lent. Today, we hear the story of the wayward son and the older brother and the unconditional love of the father. It is a hard story for me to understand. I am the older brother. I am irritated with the younger brother. How could you just squander away the gifts given to you? I am mystified by the love of the father. Humbled.
Humbled is a good way to start Lent.

saturday
Saturday is now a work day for me.
It is a very strange work day. The house is quiet - my loved ones are all sleeping. I am procrastinating getting out of the chair. I push the limit of leaving home. It is a short day - it usually passes quickly. I will be busy. I am thankful I have a job to go to and a paycheque that comes home. I am thankful for the opportunity to walk to work. I am thankful for the light.

oh the lameness of it all
I am undergoing a small trial. To be clear it is very small in light of what is happening to our friends in Australia but - it is happening. I was so looking forward to quiet evening. I was going to drive my daughter to dance - work on the laundry - pick her up - watch an episode of HOUSE - check my blog - email my friends - just be. But, no the was not the way the evening turned out.
I lost my wallet in the grocery store parking lot - somewhere - somehow... doesn't matter - the bottom line is I don't have it. So, last night I spent on the phone cancelling my credit cards and my debit cards. I need a new driver's license. I had cash and postage stamps and other such small stuff... but it is the vulnerability I feel that is distressing. My wallet with my personal information is now out there in the public domain. I am slightly paranoid about identity theft so this slays me. I thought I was going to have a heart attack last night; my blood pressure must have been through the roof... I am better now.. just need to move forward and take precautions... and the good news is that I get to pick out a new wallet... I hold very little hope that someone will turn the wallet in to the police intact. Even if they took all the credit cards and and the money but left my ID - I would be happy... but I am doubtful.
The other good news is that I never carry my SIN and my birth certificate around for this very reason so it could have been a lot worse.
On with the day.

postscript
Glory to God. The wallet has been returned. Albeit damaged - cards missing and destroyed - but the driver's license was intact. Obviously it had been driven over - but who cares. I am SO VERY GRATEFUL for this divine intervention. And guess what - the sun is shining!

shots fired....
Shots fired.
In my neighbourhood.
Again.
Two times this week.
Slightly distressing.
edited to add: just so we are clear my neighbourhood means where I shop and my daughter dance's and such... not like on my street or anything that close....

post script
We had a pretty darn fantastic time.
The weather was near perfect. The sun shone both Friday and Saturday. It was so warm the kids were boarding in their sweat shirts. We took advantage the night boarding both Friday and Saturday night. There was some great people watching. Some of the least forgetful:
1. Mr Neon Man - a skier in a neon pink jumpsuit - belted - he literally glowed on the mountain.
2. StarTrek Man - another skier - snowsuit circa 1980's - grey with star trek styling trim - orange, black and yellow
3. The Fox Rocks guys - three ancient rockers - they are still sporting their 70's looks...
I lament the fact I missed out on the whole snowboarding experience. My back would not survive the learning curve. It looks amazingly fun. I shall live vicariously through my children.
Now, it is recovery day. Mounds of laundry. Pilates was canceled so I can stay home and spend the morning tackling that chore.
Parish council work to do... meeting tonight. Life goes on.

six things
- We are off to the mountain - snowboarding and relaxing - eating and drinking - sleeping - reading - knitting - visiting with my bestest friends
- Lent is coming very soon - I have mixed feelings - I love Lent - I love the services and the fact that I get to be in church more often but I also KNOW the battle becomes that much more intense - where is my armor?
- I am reading PD James - the Private Patient
- I am researching burial practices and the funeral industry.
- I have started Pilates again.
- My 86 Honda accord is failing on pretty much all fronts - it's lifespan is definitely limited and I am in denial and very sad about that.

7:17 am
How can it be that late already?
I even woke earlier today.
I need more time.
Remember when I said I would have more time once I started walking to work.
It didn't happen.
