Alright then. We need help. Ideas. We are going to Maui in the spring. Well in the beginning of March which is not technically the spring yet. We have cameras - digital (mine) and film (Mr W's) and he will loads of film - high speed stuff that is extremely light sensitive. How the heck do we transport this stuff .... looks like we can each take our camera on board with us as our second piece... but what about the film? Can you ask them not to scan the film? Do you need a special bag to protect the film? He is going to send his colour shots to a lab in the US to develop - while we are there and just have them send the slides back to us in Canada... but the B & W film... what do we do with that? How do we get it home safely so he can develop it? If you have ideas, suggestions - let me know. Or connect me to someone in the know. Internets - I am counting on you.

When we were in Hawaii, we took a digital camera and had no issues. But, we bought an underwater camera there, and had the film developed before we got on the plane for just that worry.
I'd think you could find a place on the island to develop the film prior to flying out.

you can buy a special bag for your film and negatives at any camera shop. do you have a Black's? I think that's where I got mine. or London Drugs.

To the best of my knowledge, the "no carry-ons allowed on flights to the US" is still in effect. I'd double check though when March comes around. However, you should be aware that although it is stated that you're allowed to bring a camera on board, they are being VERY adamant that ONLY the camera itself is allowed onboard. Don't bring lenses, film, etc. Small camera bag and camera only.
Also, when they say that a "ladies purse" is allowed onboard, the dimensions are 25x30x4cm. Really, really small. You can carry in your hands things like books, a laptop (not the case), iPod, etc. Just don't bring any bags.
In terms of the sensitivity of the film, I can't help you there :(

I'd say shoot jamesmoes a quick email. he'd know. he travels and does shoots. he even flew to alaska once for a shoot.
