Great and Holy Friday. The service of the Shroud. Purple and Red. Tulips and Roses. Soon, I will be off to the church to do my work. We are going to dye eggs today. It is grey and stormy. Just as it should be on this dark day. I do have one request that the rain takes a reprieve when we are processing around the church.
It is a Fast day. One of the great benefits of the Fast is that time is not spend on meal prep. Doesn't mean we are not thinking about food. Going in the paschal basket this year: eggs, butter, cheese, pepperoni, salami, various other cold cuts, a couple of slices of pizza, chocolate. I bring a baguette and there is nothing quite like breaking into the blessed basket at 2.30am and taking that first bite in the midst of so much joy and friends.
For those of you who fill a basket - what are your must haves?

Pascha basket must haves:
For me:
Fancier cheeses and a cheesball, and nice crackers to go with.
Chocolate
Chocolate crosses (a family tradition from when I was young--no chocolate bunny but a homemade cross made of peanutbutter, chocolate, honey, and sesame seeds--and mom got the "leftovers" in the form of "stones that have been rolled away")
For him:
pepperoni sticks
Guinness
Greek salad
This year, though, there was so much potluck food in addition to the Pascha baskets that we didn't even break into the basket stuff until the next morning!
