letters to my grandmother

When I was in the roof storage area putting away the Christmas decorations - I found a couple of boxes of papers.  One was filled with old correspondence - letters I have received - and then I found a bunch of letters I had written my grandmother while I was at university and during the first years of my married life.  They were all in their envelopes - with my return addresses clearly written.  I was astonished to see these.  My mother saved them for me after my grandmother died.  I must have just popped them into the box and forgot all about them.  I went through the envelopes and transcribed my addresses into my journal - I lived in a lot of places.... some I had completely forgotten.  I matched up the addresses and the years I lived there.   I am going to read the letters and see if there is anything I should keep - maybe make some notes... maybe scan them .... not sure.  My first impression is that my handwriting script is very inconsistent... it is like different people wrote the letters....

I also found a box of old journals.  Through these winter months I am going to work through these boxes and see just what I was thinking.

what an amazing find!

i came across a bundle of postcards my grandparents had sent to me during my adolescence while they spent their summers in Austria. they are both still living, but in very ill health and very sad. it is nice to hold on to that bit of them.

in this case, you get to see what a change you have made! how fun.

when my Grandma died we found a box of all the letters my brothers and i sent her when we were little. she died when i was 12 so these letters were of the kindergarten and grade one variety! so cute. i still have them all somewhere. i particularily love the one where i told her i'd gone skating and had bought a blue gun. that was all. when you're 5 those are the most important things to tell Grandma's about!

The photograph is beautiful! My mom has a couple of letter I wrote her when I was a little girl. They are so funny! I'm not sure if there are any letters of mine from my young adult life anywhere. What a personal treasure.

how lovely. personally I would keep these over other things, as most things you can replace but letters once they are gone, they are gone.

I have lots of old journals here, waiting for me. for now they will continue to wait.

That's so interesting... what a lovely thing to find again! My handwriting is inconsistent too, I wonder if that will stop, or be that way forever.
