me: don't forgot the cheque to pay the tutor
daughter: I won't.
me: don't forget your lunch
daughter: I won't
me: your cheque and your lunch are still sitting here
daughter: can you give me a ride?
me: no. I am not going to work today. you can walk - it will take you 5 minutes.
daughter: the girl who lives across the school gets a ride every day
me: that is even more pathetic than we are - you can walk.
I leave the kitchen and go to the bathroom. My daughter shouts goodbye. I re-enter the kitchen to find the CHEQUE for the tutor and her lunch. She is lucky her brother is running late and will bring it to school for her.
The irony of the whole situation is we just had another talk about freedom and responsibility. She has been working at being more responsible. She has improved but obviously still has a ways to go.
My son has asked me to promise if he dies before me that I bury him in black chuck taylors.
We didn't really have much time to discuss what prompted that request.

life is never boring with teenagers in the house, is it?
Yeah. It is sometimes really hard to focus. Glad you are teaching your daughter about freedom and responsiblity.
Hope you can follow up with your son.
I am learning more about communication lately and following up with questions. I am glad I can learn.
See, posts like this make me wonder whether I would find that funny or frustrating as a parent of an (or multiple) adolescent(s). Frustrating comes to mind, except that I'm laughing audibly.
How many years left??
