The bathroom tub facet has been repaired without a trip to the local big orange hardware store.
Hurrah.
The dance exam is over. It was "draumatizing" said my daughter.
Is there such a word? I don't think so... but it sums it up. 2 out of 4 young women left in the middle of the exam. This is something you don't do. One doesn't leave the exam room for anything. Both my daughter's partner and the remaining young lady's partner left so that meant my daughter and the remaining dancer had to dance together which they had not done before.
Now, we wait for the marks. And she continues to dance and prepare for the recital in June.

ha ha ha
Our bathroom shower stall tap has been dripping... it is on the list of things to do... I came back from driving Miss H to dance and gave it an extra twist... and it broke right off and hot water started gushing out .... I quickly shut the water off - I know this due to the hot water tank episode - in January - now also on the to do list was to fix a light fixture that has been out... in order to repair the taps we will need more light so I dug around in our extra light bulb cabinet and found the halogen bulb and dismantled the light fixture and replaced the bulb so we have LIGHT.
Mr. W will have to repair the facet - fun times. So much for the relaxing morning of doing laundry and listening to some Mountain Goats.
Oh. Did I mention the call from the lawyers.... from an accident that happened way back in 2004? That too, happened this morning...
But, now the sun is shining. Spring is coming. Life is turning.

exam day
It is the grade 5 ballet exam today.
We are slightly nervous. Not as nervous as last year. We said goodbye to the brother. We called the school to say we will be late.
The daughter is having a bath to warm up and then into the new leotard and hair pulled back just so... I drop her off at 9am and pick her up at 11. There is no watching and waiting. All parents are dismissed. Thank you for coming. See you soon.
A plan has been hatched by the daughter and Miss L - her dance instructor. She will take this exam now. She will study hard the rest of the year, through the summer and early fall and take her Intermediate Foundation exam in the fall of '08. She has ambitious plans this daughter of mine.
She has found her passion.

tylenol cold and flue
The medication is free flowing these days.... symptoms include sore throat, runny nose, sinus headache, overall malaise....the parents are now in battle.
No time to get sick. Last week to purchase your RRSP's.
The dance exam is upon us. Thursday Feb 28th.
I had an interesting meeting with someone who was extremely passionate about their job and company and is enticing me to consider applying....

here we go again....
We are heading towards the end of second term. Two weeks ago I sent an email to my daughter's core subjects teacher checking in to see how she is doing... is she missing any assignments etc? I did not get an immediate response.
Now I have an email in my box stating that she is missing a bunch of assignments is feeling overwhelmed...no kidding! She is catching up but the point is that in grade 8 she will not get a second chance. Organization is the challenge. She needs a way to keep organized that she can work with. She has an agenda but I can only ask if she has filled it out and check it. I am off on Mondays now so I think I will be visiting the school to see what assignments are due when so I can better monitor the situatiion.. but I don't want to the be the monitor... I want her to do it herself. Blah.

planning ahead
My children will soon be 13.
How the heck did that happen?
I am taking a few days off at the end of the month so we will all be together. We are thinking about going away for a short jaunt up island. We will be smack dab in the middle of Lent. Western Easter is at the end of March and Pascha not until the 27th of April. I love it when Pascha is late as we benefit from much warmer weather and it makes for an overall more lovely picnic celebration.
I am looking for a couple of little things that they mentioned in passing. I still have a month to find them.
They are picking their art electives for grade 8. My daugter's first choice is dance and then visual art. My son's first choice is drama and then visual art. His first choice surprised me. I thought for certain he would choose art first then drama. He is quite keen on the tech aspect.... lighting - sound - etc.
We are well entrenched is Season 3 of Lost. I have to say that I will be happy when we are done so I don't feel so bound to the TV. But, there is no better way than to watch it without the commercials.
My sister is back from Hawaii - can't wait to see her.

7 Random Things
I was pretty sure I was going to become a nun. I lived in Sweden and Switzerland after graduating from university and tested out my monastic vocation. I came home when my sister was diagnosed with cancer and my life took a big change. But, my days at the Communaute de Grandchamp have influenced me to the core.
My glass prescription is -9. Oh yeah. Severely limited vision - but contacts and glasses correct it just fine and there is no way in HELL I will have Laser Surgery on my eyeballs.
My university degree is in Philosophy and Medieval Women Studies.
Like Nora - I cannot stand nylons but I love TIGHTS.
I have a fondness for Chuck Taylor Converse All Stars.
I want to write a book someday.
Each year I plant a garden and about half way through the summer chaos takes over ... we usually grow lettuce and peas...I would love to expand into something a little more hearty.

funky monkey
The talent show is tonight.
It is a fundraiser for the grade 12s at the Fine Arts School.
My daughter and a friend have choreographed a dance routine.
The talent should be fierce.

apres the weekend
So,
the dishwasher was delivered.... and the guys driving the truck said "did you purchase this with a broken leg" as they knew it was a floor model.
No, it was not a broken leg but a replaced kickplate... there was no way we could install it with a broken leg so we said no thanks to the delivery and we called the vendor. And we waited.
The mechanic called to say my car was ready and the snow was still falling. As soon as Mr. W came home we jumped in the subaru to pick up my car and the vendor called - they will repair the leg and give us a 5 year warranty no charge for our trouble - they will deliver next Monday. One more week of washing dishes by hand.
We are half way through season two of LOST and Charlie has burned his bridges.
Dance was cancelled due to snow.
The X-ray shows no hairline fracture.
We are preparing for the second annual Q J and W weekend at the cabin in the mountains.

week prior
I made it to the weekend.
I felt I was in a battle.
First the dishwasher - then the heat/defog/fan thingy gave out on my Honda. Then the snow came. Then the snow came again. We had the option of using the inlaws vehicle while mine was in the shop being attended to...so we ventured forth to obtain their VW which has been parked all winter ... and it doesn't turn over... nothing - nada - zip. So, plan B was to continue to carpool with my husband and find another way home... bus, borrowed ride etc - husband comes back to pick me up. We did all three this week. The days were long. Finally the snow melted enough for me to take the Honda to to the repair shop.
Then the quote from the mechanic - much higher than I was expecting.... you gotta know my Honda is an 85 -it is old... so at what point do you say... enough with the repairs... anyway I think I can get another year or so out of it so we are getting it repaired... I can pick it up Tuesday - so that just means one more day of carpooling and leaving extra early and hanging out at the local Starbucks while I wait to go to work.
We have no coffee in the house - while we had a little and I gave it to the mr. W - so I have to leave and pick up coffee - pick up Hannah - iron the shirts .... and pick something to wear for the wedding...
